PHILADELPHIA - The 76ers on Thursday announced that first-year shooting guard Zhaire Smith has been cleared to begin practicing in non-contact drills with the team's G-League affiliate, the Delaware Blue Coats. The move marks the first that we have heard from the front office in regards to Smith in quite some time.
The 19-year-old from Texas Tech first broke his foot in August before his recovery was further hampered by "complications derived from an allergic reaction" that were revealed by the team in November. Smith played six games with the summer Sixers in Las Vegas before his injury, averaging 7.
