Flyers chairman Ed Snider dies after battle with cancer

Nobody loved the Flyers more than the man who fought to bring the NHL to Philadelphia 50 years ago.

Ed Snider, their founder, former owner and chairman in recent years, loved them from their birth until his dying day.

The morning after the Flyers prepped for a playoff berth by winning their 2015-16 season finale, Snider died Monday morning at age 83 after a long battle with cancer.

Before the Flyers won their final home game on Saturday, long-time team anthem singer Lauren Hart stood on the ice at Wells Fargo Center and sang while holding her phone with Snider listening on the other end from his home near Santa Barbara, Calif.
