Elton Brand named Delaware 87ers’ GM

Elton Brand played for the Philadelphia 76ers as recently as 2016, his last year in the league. In December 2016, a freshly retired Brand was hired as a Player Development Consultant with the 76ers.

He worked in person with both 76ers and 87ers players in this capacity, which gives him an interesting perspective on his new job. Most GMs tend to be more “savvy businessman” than “former player” or “development coach,” though there are some notable exceptions.

Brand played for five different teams over his 17-year career, including the Philadelphia 76ers. He also played for the Los Angeles Clippers, Chicago Bulls, Dallas Mavericks, and Atlanta Hawks.
