The Borgata officially became the first Atlantic City casino to cast sports bets Thursday morning, as NBA legend Julius Erving, aka Dr. J wagered $5 on a repeat Superbowl victory for the Philadelphia Eagles.
"I'll hold onto this ticket for a while, at least until next year," Erving said after placing the first sports bet in Atlantic City history at the Race & Sports Book room in the Borgata, which until today served only to place bets on horse racing.
Erving said he had to make a quick decision as he was asked to make New Jersey history just the night before.
