Brooklyn man sentenced for leaving scene of crash that killed NBA star's cousin

JERSEY CITY – A Brooklyn man was sentenced to four years in prison this morning for leaving the scene of a fatal hit-and-run in Hoboken that claimed the life of an NBA player's cousin.

The courtroom was packed with friends and family members of the of the victim, Zachary Simmons, 21, of Ramsey, when Mark T. Nicholas, 51, was sentenced by Hudson County Superior Court Judge Vincent Militello.

Simmons was struck by a black SUV as he crossed Willow Avenue at Sixth Street at about 3:30 a.m. on June 25, 2017. Investigators released video footage of the SUV striking Simmons and speeding away.
