Art ignites change.
That’s the proverb public art program Mural Arts Philadelphia has sworn by since its recent launch in 1984.
As part of the Philadelphia Anti-Graffiti Network, now Executive Director Jane Golden reached out to graffiti writers in order to redirect their energies into constructive public art projects.
Since then, they’ve splashed thousands of colorful animations onto empty building canvases throughout the city.
Their latest of which, designed by fifth grader Brendan Dougherty, was brought to life by brilliantly talented Ernel Martinez (Amber Art & Design). The 76ers enriched mural contains athletes posing from Philadelphia’s past.
