Philadelphia 76ers center Joel Embiid sat out all season with a foot injury, and the timetable for his NBA debut appears to have been pushed back after suffering a setback.
General manager Sam Hinkie says team doctors saw less healing than expected in a recent CT scan of the center's foot.
"Our priority remains providing Joel with every opportunity to ensure he has a long and successful NBA career," Hinkie said in a statement. "And as such, these findings cause us to pause and reassess his current activities. Together with Joel and his representatives, we will continue to consult with the experienced team of doctors who have been an integral part of his evaluation, while also engaging in dialogue with a broader set of experts and specialists."
The Sixers were thought to draft a perimeter player with the No. 3 pick with Embiid and Nerlens Noel in the post, but they may now reconsider a big man with their pick, most notably Kristaps Porzingis.
