The Philadelphia 76ers hold the No. 1 overall draft pick as well as several other picks and highly valued assets. That's a direct result of Sam Hinkie's "process," although Hinkie is no longer with the organization. The 76ers are a prime candidate to make a move or two this offseason. With that in mind, here are three potential draft day trades the 76ers could make:
3. Trade Up In The First Round
76ers Get: No. 18 pick
Pistons Get: No. 24 and No. 26 picks
The 76ers have both the No. 24 and No. 26 picks, and they might not keep both of them. They could move into the second round to find a draft-and-stash player, but moving higher up in the first round makes sense as well. The Pistons are one of several teams in the mid-first range that 76ers could try to swing a deal with. Two firsts should appeal to several teams, even if they aren't high picks. The 76ers could find another guard or swingman with a higher pick.
2. Trade Away Nerlens Noel
76ers Get: No. 4 overall pick
Suns Get: Noel
The 76ers aren't going to keep both Noel and Okafor. Joel Embid is finally healthy and the 76ers are high on Dario Saric, one of their first rounders last year. That's too many big men to give minutes to, so one of them will likely be dealt. Noel could be dealt for a young guard (maybe the Lakers' Jordan Clarkson?) but dealing him for a draft pick makes sense as well. No. 4 overall might be a bit pricey for Noel, but the Suns need a power forward and Noel is better than the other options who will be on the board for the Suns. The 76ers could take a point guard like Kris Dunn or a combo guard like Jamal Murray here.
1. Trade Away Jahlil Okafor
76ers Get: No. 3 overall pick
Celtics Get: Okafor
Of the moves, trading Okafor seems like the most likely. He was inconsistent during his rookie year, but there's a reason he was the No. 3 overall pick just a year ago. The Okafor-to-the-Celtics idea has already been floated this offseason and Boston tried to trade for him before the deadline. But the 76ers might want more than the No. 3 overall pick and the Celtics likely want a bigger name than Okafor. But there's a decent chance this deal, or some variation of it, ends up happening. The Sixers could take their choice of guard at the No. 3 spot.
