The No. 9 Pepperdine Men’s Water Polo team came out strong in their first Golden Coast Conference game, topping seventh-ranked Long Beach State 10-5 for the Waves’ first win against the 49ers in four years. Senior goalie Zack Rhodes acquired 17 saves, while junior attacker Marko Asic drained four goals, bringing his total this season up to 51.

Water Polo Head Coach Terry Schroeder said Long Beach State is known to play a very aggressive game and the Waves came prepared.

“The strategy was to play four solid quarters focused on defense, we told the guys to stay focused on the scoreboard and not get involved in any individual battles,” Schroeder said.
