Washington Capitals star Alex Ovechkin scored twice Friday night against the Winnipeg Jets to pass Gordie Howe for second on the NHL's all-time goals list with 802.
Ovechkin tied Howe with a first-period goal, then took sole possession of second place with an empty-netter with one minute left in the Capitals' 4-1 win.
Ovechkin trails only Wayne Gretzky for the most goals in NHL history. Gretzky scored 894 goals in 1,487 games.
"It's great to be in this company, and obviously it's pretty special," Ovechkin said on the team's television broadcast after he tied Howe.
