Women’s basketball notebook | Carolyn Kieger talks struggling stars, poor defense

Following a disastrous December stretch where Penn State went 1-4 after opening the season 8-0, coach Carolyn Kieger knows that things have to change before taking on six top 25 opponents in January.

On New Year’s Eve – a day before the Lady Lions look to flip the switch in the new year against No. 23 Iowa – Kieger spoke of several of these much-needed adjustments.

Moriah Murray’s opposition

Redshirt sophomore Moriah Murray opened the season as the nation’s leader in 3-pointers made, scoring 36 threes during the team’s 8-0 start.

Since then, she’s only scored eight baskets from behind the arc, caused by a change in opposing defenses’ scouting.
