When Penn State made its 2013 road trip to Minneapolis for the last meeting between the sides, the Big Ten’s notorious air mattress was still inflated. But not for long. Two months later in January 2014 they began demolition of one of the least-beloved structures in sports history. Bob Costas cussed it out on a hot mic during the 1987 World Series for being a mindless, plastic loony bin of noise, unfit for the game of baseball. I can personally vouch for pounding headaches every time I left the place dating back to my first visit in 1984. Covering a Minnesota football game there and enduring the relentless field-microphone-amplified cacophony was comparable to a 4-hour visit to Chuck E.
