Using mutual trust as his brick, Jeff Kampersal embarks on another year of building Penn State women’s hockey

Jeff Kampersal spent most of his first season at the helm of the Penn State’s women’s hockey program working overtime.

The Nittany Lions needed more than the 60 minutes allotted for regulation hockey 15 times in 36 games last season, tying an NCAA record—that part of Kampersal’s busy introduction to Penn State is quantifiable.

Try accounting for the hours spent replacing the old, toxic culture left behind by former coach Josh Brandwene while stabilizing the foundation of a six-year-old program, and you’ll likely find yourself skating around in circles.

For the better part of five seasons under Brandwene, the fledgling Nittany Lions did exactly that.
