In a game that went down to the wire between top college hockey programs, it was the small mistakes that handed Penn State the loss against Michigan.
There were no clutch goals from Alex Limoges, or a world-beating attempt from Evan Barratt to save the Nittany Lions on Friday night. These moments were replaced by untimely penalties and a sense of urgency that came too late.
The Nittany Lions did look dangerous on the attack down one with a minute left on the clock.
At that point, all it took was a bad bounce towards Michigan forward Will Lockwood in front of an empty Penn State net to squash any opportunities of more third period magic from the Nittany Lions.
