Under-the-radar tackle OK with playing his role on Penn State defense

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Defensive tackle Tarow Barney is used to flying under the radar.

A former Bainbridge, Ga., prospect who didn’t garner much attention in his recruitment coming out of high school, Barney spent two years at Northwest Mississippi Community College getting his academics in order before transferring to Penn State in January 2014.

Barney enters his second and final season with the Nittany Lions and still remains largely unknown. While Penn State has a dynamic defensive tackle duo in the tree-tackling-viral-video sensation that is Anthony Zettel and his counterpart Austin Johnson, teammates said Barney and redshirt sophomore Parker Cothren could start for other teams if they played just about anywhere else.
