Trace McSorley’s prodigious rookie season in 2016 puts him on track to challenge the career marks of the Big Ten greats if he can stay healthy. The Penn State sophomore with the knack for the big play not only led the conference in passing yards last season (3,614) but placed fourth all-time in NCAA history in yards per completion for a single season (16.13).

Of course, there are all sorts of analog and digital methods to measure a quarterback’s effectiveness. They don’t all relate to passing yardage, some not even to passing at all but resilience, endurance and leadership.
