For the fifth time in program history, Penn State lined up with a 7-0 record, hoping to extend it against Drexel.
In a much closer than anticipated contest, the Lady Lions defeated the Dragons 86-78 with home court advantage.
Wednesday was a blast from the past for the nation’s 3-point leader, who was initially part of Drexel’s squad before joining coach Carolyn Kieger in Happy Valley.
Despite these former relationships, redshirt sophomore Moriah Murray came in with a vengeance, starting things strong with five points and her first 3-pointer of the day.
However, Murray wasn’t the highest scorer for the blue and white early — fellow redshirt sophomore Gracie Merkle, who ranks fourth in the country in double-doubles and fifth in field goals, racked up double-digit scoring in just the first quarter.
