Clemson is working toward a deal to hire Penn State defensive coordinator Tom Allen as the school's new defensive coordinator, sources told ESPN.
Allen has emerged as Clemson's top target, and the sides expect a decision formalized in the upcoming days.
Allen is the former head coach at Indiana who thrived in his lone season as the defensive coordinator in State College. Penn State's scoring defense, total defense and rush defense all ranked in the Top 10 this season.
He's a veteran defensive coordinator with a wide swath of coaching experience. He's also been the defensive coordinator at Indiana (prior to his promotion to head coach) and South Florida.
