‘Shooters shoot’ | How Penn State men’s basketball recovered from a shooting slump

Penn State’s 84.2 points per game ranks No. 4 in the Big Ten, but it has dealt with its fair share of struggles this season.

Beginning in late December and lasting until early January, the Nittany Lions endured a five-game stretch in which they shot just 20% from 3-point range. However, since its game against Oregon, the team has regained its 3-point stride, shooting 42.2% from beyond the arc.

“We went through a stretch where we weren't making threes,” coach Mike Rhoades said. “That hurt us, but we were playing the right way.”

It was sometimes hard to watch the Nittany Lions’ shooting slump because they often did everything else right — getting the right player open beyond the arc following a quality pass to set that player up.
