However, with a program as strong as Penn State’s, sometimes the backups are just as competitive as the starters.
Following the Southern Scuffle, a tournament in Chattanooga, Tennessee, where Penn State brought home a team title and saw six individuals win championships, a backup wrestler emerged in a big way at 197 pounds, making a case to move himself into the starting lineup.
Shakur Rasheed, a junior from Coram, New York, had posted a 22-8 combined record in two prior seasons for the Nittany Lions.
