The 1947 Penn State football team is barely referenced anymore other than to note its breaking of the Southern college football color line at the 1948 Cotton Bowl in Dallas and the first black players ever to play for the Penn State varsity in Wally Triplett and Dennie Hoggard. But none other than PSU football historian Lou Prato calls it "aguably the greatest" in school history.
