Defense wins championships, and for a team desperately trying to climb the ranks and earn a spot in the NCAA tournament, that fact was more important than ever. The good news for the Nittany Lions was that their last line of defense, junior goaltender Arsenii Sergeev, has been one of the team’s most impressive pieces.
Sergeev anchored No. 18 Penn State’s back end en route to its 3-2 historic victory over Notre Dame on Saturday night, marking the first time in program history it has swept the Fighting Irish.
“We have all the confidence in the world that he’s going to make a save,” senior Dylan Lugris said.
