Missouri junior Karissa Schweizer ran away in the 5,000 meters Saturday at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Eugene, Oregon, for her third national title of the 2016-17 school year.
She is the first female athlete at Missouri to win three national titles.
Schweizer toed the line of the 5,000 at Historic Hayward Field as the favorite to win the event. She won the NCAA Cross Country Championships in November 2016 and then the 5K at the NCAA Indoors, as well as placing second in the 3,000 in that meet.
In the first mile of Saturday's 5,000, the entire field was packed together.
