Samantha Catantan set to make historic Olympic debut for the Philippines

Samantha Catantan is making history.

The fencer is set to make her debut at the 2024 Paris Olympics, representing her home country of the Philippines. The 22-year-old was born in Quezon City and has been a member of the Philippine national fencing team since she was 15 years old.

Catantan is the first Filipino to qualify in the event since Walter Torres' performance at the 1992 Barcelona Games.

Her first year at Penn State was shortened due to the pandemic, but she still had an incredible season. Catantan achieved a 24-5 record during the regular season.
