UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — For at least 30 years, Russ Rose said he coached without a contract while building the Penn State women’s volleyball program one step at a time, growing the fan base and setting a standard where winning seasons and NCAA tournament berths became the norm.
“It was always a renewing arrangement,” Rose said Thursday afternoon, chuckling at how much has changed during his tenure at Penn State that began in 1979.
Penn State guaranteed Rose will continue leading the program in the coming years, agreeing with him on a five-year contract extension Thursday, athletic director Sandy Barbour announced.
