Twice in the first half, Stony Brook declined 10-yard penalties on University of Richmond blockers protecting quarterback Kyle Lauletta. The Seawolves preferred to give the Spiders third-and-eight, and then fourth-and-four, rather than back them up and present Lauletta additional shots.
Limiting Lauletta, the FCS’s top passer (377.6 ypg), in one way or another, was Stony Brook’s goal. The Seawolves milked the play clock, kept the ball on the ground for the most part, stayed back in coverage, and in so doing minimized Lauletta's opportunities for quick strikes.
On Saturday's Richmond homecoming, Stony Brook knocked off the Spiders 27-24 in a setback that does grave damage to UR's chances of making a fourth straight trip to the FCS playoffs.
