Any time Baseball America sent someone new to the College World Series, John Manuel shared the same advice he received before his first trip to Omaha in 1998.
A few years back it was Aaron Fitt, who would be there before Manuel arrived for the CWS championship series.
“The last thing I told him before he left the office was, ‘Make sure you meet the guy from The World-Herald, Steve Pivovar,’ ” Manuel said.
It was never a surprise then that traffic flowed regularly through the second row of the press box at Rosenblatt Stadium or TD Ameritrade Park, where “Piv” was ready to answer a question, relive a moment or chat with a visitor.
