Recruiting again takes center stage at Big Ten media days

CHICAGO — Penn State athletic director Sandy Barbour said Tuesday negative recruiting happens “every day” and “everywhere.”

But the topic has been thrust into the spotlight at the Big Ten Conference’s media days in Chicago.

Barbour, who first talked about the issue last week to ESPN, said Tuesday there are different levels of so-called negative recruiting, from “taking facts and making sure that, instead of espousing your positives espousing someone else’s negatives” to “making stuff up, and things that are not factual and using those.”

“That’s a fact that that is happening,” Barbour said.
