Recruit pranked by 'Auburn' gets help from ex-PSU assistant

Herb Hand was one of the more popular Penn State assistants during his tenure with the Nittany Lions. As James Franklin’ offensive line coach in 2014-15, he appeared on the TV show “Chopped.” He spearheaded a “pizza crawl” around State College to benefit local charities. And he trolled Pitt’s coaching staff on Twitter.

Now an assistant at Auburn, where he took a job last offseason, he’s at the center of a rare feel-good story from the recruiting trail.

247 Sports reported Friday that Hand has pledged to scout a high school player who recently received a prank phone call about a fake Auburn scholarship offer from someone claiming to be Hand.
