The law firm hired to monitor ethics and compliance at Penn State University in the wake of the Jerry Sandusky child sex abuse scandal has recommended an early end to the NCAA-mandated monitor period because the school has made good progress.
Charles P. Scheeler of DLA Piper LLP wrote in the firm's third annual "Athletic Integrity Monitor" report, released today, that “[g]iven Penn State’s progress and the commitments made by [Penn State] President Eric Barron, I recommended to the NCAA and Big Ten Conference the early conclusion of the monitorship at the end of the 2015 calendar year.
