HARRISBURG — Nearly three years after his bronze statue was removed from outside Beaver Stadium amid the Jerry Sandusky child sex abuse case, Joe Paterno’s football accomplishments may soon be honored in a new way.
A state representative introduced legislation last week that would name a Pennsylvania Turnpike bridge linking Dauphin and York counties after the late head coach at Penn State University.
The bill from state Rep. Mike Regan, R-York, proposes calling it the Joseph V. Paterno Memorial Bridge. The bridge crosses the Susquehanna River in Dauphin County.
Mr. Paterno was fired in November 2011 after 46 years as head coach of the Nittany Lions after the release of the grand jury presentment that indicted Sandusky, his former defensive coordinator.
