Porter set to hit L.A. to vie for national Gatorade award

With his selection as Gatorade National Boys Basketball Player of the Year in March, incoming Missouri freshman Michael Porter Jr. became a nominee for the Gatorade High School Male Athlete of the Year award.

Earlier this week, details of that award ceremony were released, and Porter is set to join the other candidates ahead of ESPN's ESPY Awards next week in Los Angeles.

The winners will be announced during a dinner Tuesday, and all of the nominees will walk the red carpet on Wednesday at the ESPYs.

After beginning his high school career in Columbia at Tolton, leading the Trailblazers to a Class 3 state title as a junior, Porter carried Seattle's Nathan Hale to a 29-0 record, a No.
