Pittsburgh Steelers sign former Middletown RB, Penn State walk-on

Brandon Johnson's Pittsburgh Steelers tryout wasn't a failure.

The former Middletown player and Penn State walk-on running back wasn't signed after participating in the Steelers' rookie minicamp. But with the release of Shaun Suisham announced Friday, Pittsburgh signed Johnson.

During minicamp Johnson said he felt he fit in well with the Steelers and especially enjoyed the team's coaching staff.

Johnson came out of high school with no Division-I scholarship offers and instead played at Mesabi Junior College (Minnesota) for a year before returning to Pennsylvania and attending Penn State. He successfully walked on partway through his sophomore year, but never featured for the Nittany Lions.
