The Philadelphia Eagles began trimming their roster Friday, and third-string quarterback Matt McGloin was among the casualties.
Philadelphia must reduce its roster to 53 players before Saturday's 4 p.m. deadline as it approaches a Sept. 10 regular-season opener at Washington. The team announced 16 moves Friday afternoon that leave 70 players on the active roster, meaning the Eagles will need to make 17 more cuts over the next 23 hours.
McGloin, a former Penn State star, was aiming to stick with the Eagles as a No. 3 quarterback but failed to turn in consistent performances throughout a busy preseason.
