Pennsylvania agency seeks applicants for millions from Penn State paid over Sandusky scandal

HARRISBURG, Pa. — A Pennsylvania government commission is now taking grant applicants for some of the $48 million paid into the state treasury by Penn State over the university’s handling of the Jerry Sandusky child sexual abuse scandal.

The Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency announced Wednesday the first round of grants are targeted at children’s advocacy centers, victim service entities and health workers who aid child victims of sexual abuse.

A 2-year-old state law requires the commission spend up to $24 million in the first five years, after which grants will be limited to interest and earnings on the remaining funds.
