Penn State’s Michael Shuey captured third place in the javelin Saturday afternoon at the U.S. Track and Field Championships.
The senior delivered a personal-best throw of 255 feet, 8 inches at Sacramento State’s Hornet Stadium. Riley Dolezal won the event at 268-3. Shuey’s throw was 5 1/2 feet beyond his Penn State program record.
Among other Nittany Lions competing Saturday, David Lucas took 10th in the discus at 184-9, Rachel Fatherly was 14th in the shot put at 53-6 1/2 and Malik Moffett was 26th overall in the first round of the 200-meter dash and did not advance to Sunday’s semifinals.
