Penn State wrestling’s Zain Retherford finishes career with third-straight title at 149 pounds

CLEVELAND -- Zain Retherford is a four-time All-American, three-time Big Ten Champion, Hodge Trophy winner and now a three-time NCAA Champion.

The 149-pounder secured his third championship after defeating Ronald Perry of Lock Haven in the championship round Saturday night.

Retherford secured the first points of the match off an early takedown to go up 2-0. He’d add another before the first period expired, finishing the period with a 4-1 advantage.

In the second, Retherford scored the only point, an escape at the beginning of the period.

Up 5-1, Retherford avoided being taken down for the remainder of the third period to win 6-2.
