Though the Nittany Lions had former players in coaching positions at the Olympic Games in Rio, Frank Molinaro is the only former athlete who returns as a coach to the Lorenzo Wrestling Complex after competing in the Games.
Penn State wrestling head coach Cael Sanderson, in his post-Rio press conference on Aug. 25, said his assistant wrestling coach was “a great story.”
“[He’s] really just a guy who, a year ago, nobody would have thought would be competing for a medal at the Olympics,” Sanderson said. “Truly just dedication and discipline and commitment. He was able to take a huge step up and show the world that he’s right there with the best of them.
