Five sets, three challenges and missed opportunities, all back-dropped by a season-high attendance of 5,554, were what defined Penn State's Friday night match against No. 1 Nebraska in Rec Hall.

"If you want to be one of the relevant teams," coach Russ Rose said, "you need to hold your home court."

In what Rose called a "pretty inspiring" first set, the No. 11 Nittany Lions (17-7, 9-4 Big Ten) came out playing strong. Though the score went back and forth, the Lions took a brief 5-4 lead early in the first set on an error by the Cornhuskers (21-1, 12-1).
