The Big Ten Medal of Honor, which has been rewarded for 102 years, was the first award in collegiate athletics to recognize academic and athletic excellence, according to a press release.
Women’s soccer’s Britt Eckerstrom and wrestler Nico Megaludis were selected to the honors for the 2015-16 season.
The two student-athletes were previously recipients of the Ernest B. McCoy Memorial Award, which is an annual award presented to one Penn State senior male and senior female based on academic and athletic success.
“They have both been tremendous leaders and represented their teams, Intercollegiate Athletics and the University with abundant passion and made the most of their opportunities at Penn State,” athletic director Sandy Barbour said in a statement.
