Snow flurries and wind gusts couldn't cool down Penn State. The No. 1 seeded Nittany Lions (17-3-2) defeated No. 16 seed Albany (11-9-1) in the first round of the NCAA tournament at Jeffrey Field 5-0.
The first half was controlled by the Lions. The Great Danes barely crossed half field in the entire game and brought a defense style to the game, often putting nine players behind the ball. The scoring was started off by Megan Schafer. The sophomore forward played the ball from her back as several Albany defenders closed. Schafer was able to poke the ball past Albany goalkeeper Alana Olivieri for the first goal of the night.
