Penn State quarterback Christian Hackenberg and wide receiver DaeSean Hamilton are among the 80 nominees for the Maxwell Award’s 2015 Watch List, the football club announced Tuesday. The award, given annually to the college football player of the year, will be announced Dec. 10.
Besides Hackenberg and Hamilton, Penn State defensive tackle Anthony Zettel was selected to the Maxwell Club’s Bednarik Award Watch List, which is given annually to college football’s top defensive player.
Hackenberg looks to rebound after a shaky sophomore season when he played behind a struggling offensive line that surrendered 44 sacks. Hackenberg was at times erratic too and his 12 touchdowns to 15 interceptions were a step back from his freshman season when he was named the Big Ten’s freshman of the year.
