An extra innings game is always a challenge, but with the help of starting pitcher Marlaina Laubach and an explosive ninth inning at the plate, Penn State overcame the close contest, defeating Rutgers 4-1 in nine innings.
In a 12-8 win on Friday versus Big Ten opponent Rutgers (15-18, 0-2 Big Ten), the Nittany Lions (13-14, 2-0 Big Ten) had a season high of 12 runs scored and 10 RBIs. But in their second game of the series against the Scarlet Knights, both teams faced trouble trying to score runs early on.
Similar to yesterday's contest, the first run for the Lions came again in their first at bat, this time against Knights pitcher Dresden Maddox.
