Starting strong has been a recent trend for Penn State basketball, and that continued Wednesday night on the road against Rutgers. Unfortunately, the Nittany Lions struggled to finish and had to hang on to the very end to ultimately defeat the Knights, 66-65.
Rutgers actually scored the first basket of the game, but the Nittany Lions quickly opened a lead. Penn State locked down on defense and allowed Rutgers to manage just 19 points in the first half.
Up 37-19 to start the second half, Penn State appeared to have things all but wrapped up. However, poor plays on the defensive end, paired with missed shots, led to the Nittany Lions letting Rutgers back into the game.
