Now with 12 wins in conference play, Penn State tied its second-highest win total in its Big Ten program history.
The Nittany Lions (25-17, 12-3 Big Ten) took the 8-3 victory in game one from Iowa (12-31, 2-13 Big Ten) on Friday night at Bob Pearl Field.
Despite the win, the Lions did not start out strong in their first at bat. In the leadoff spot, senior Macy Jones struck out looking. Sophomore Mollie Sorenson also struck out and junior Shelby Miller grounded out to shortstop, ending the 1-2-3 half inning scoreless.
Without jumping on the Hawkeyes pitching early and often like coach Amanda Lehotak likes her team to do, the Lions lacked offense until later on in the game.
