Penn State softball tops Radford, starts Hokie Invite with pair of wins

Following an early morning victory over Robert Morris, the Nittany Lions went right back to work on Friday afternoon at the Hokie Invite. The blue and white looked for similar offensive success in their second contest of the day against Radford.

The Nittany Lions defeated the Highlanders, 5-3.

Penn State started the first inning with Abigail Britton in the circle. Britton entered Friday’s start with a 1-7 record.

Radford’s first batter made contact but was quickly retired after a scoop and throw to first base. Soon after, Rachel Smith blasted a 3-run home run in the first inning, allowing the Highlanders to take a 3-0 lead.
