Penn State softball loses to Michigan in Big Ten semifinal

In a game delayed by cold and rainy weather on Friday, No. 1 seeded Michigan got off to a hot start offensively against No. 4 seed Penn State.

The Wolverines (46-4, 21-2) collected four runs in the first inning in Friday's 6-1 win over the Nittany Lions (30-24, 14-9) to help propel them to the Big Ten Tournament final at Beard Field.

Coming into the contest, Wolverines' coach Carol Hutchins' team was ranked No. 2 in the country and the early goings of the matchup certainly proved why.

After Megan Betsa shut down the Lions' offense in order in the top half of the first inning, the Wolverines struck first against Marlaina Laubach to gain the early momentum.
