Despite two solid pitching performances from junior Marlaina Laubach and freshman Madison Seifert, Penn State started its last early-season tournament poorly on Friday.
In a quiet offensive showing against both Massachusetts and Ole Miss, the Nittany Lions dropped both of their first two matchups at the Red and Blue Classic in Oxford.
The Lions (7-9) opened up the tournament with a 3-0 loss to UMASS.
Senior Christy Von Pusch started the game for the Lions, but her day wasn't very long. The Bryn Mawr, Pa. native gave up three runs in the first inning and was quickly replaced by Laubach.
