UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State’s 2017 recruiting class picked up its first member Monday afternoon when four-star Ohio quarterback Sean Clifford gave Penn State his verbal pledge.
Clifford, from Cincinnati’s St. Xavier High School, chose Penn State over scholarship offers from Michigan State, Kentucky, Louisville, Pittsburgh and West Virginia, among others. Clifford, a pro-style passer, earned his Penn State scholarship offer in June after participating at one of Penn State’s prospect camps.
James Franklin said during the coaches caravan in May that ideally Penn State would have five scholarship quarterbacks on the roster in the future.
