Penn State notebook: James Franklin stressing patience while Lions seek improvement

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — James Franklin said there are plenty of positives to talk about with his team, adding that some of them might go unnoticed.

“The progress is there,” Franklin said. “Sometimes you’ve just got to take a step away and look at it.”

Seeing progress in all the team’s phases, largely including the on-field product, hasn’t been as obvious as fans and even Franklin would like. The offense, ranked 111th in the Football Bowl Subdivision (337.5 yards per game), struggled in the red zone in Saturday’s loss to Michigan, settling for three field goals on three red-zone trips.
